Description:
Small and pale hill pigeon, with broad pale yellow eye-ring. Smaller than Rock, with narrower and shorter black wing-bars. Brownish cast to upperparts, purplish cast to grey crown and nape, and extensive greyish-white back and upper rump. Also slight differences in tail pattern from Rock.
Distribution:
Rare passage migrant through the central and western parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Prefers steppe and neighboring lowlands and even deserts; also in mountain valleys close to sources of water; typically found on agricultural land in winter.
Behavior:
Forages mostly on ground, mostly in boulder-strewn or grassy slopes near cliffs, but also around human settlements, orchids, gardens and in cultivated fields. Feeds mainly on plant material like seeds, and maize and other cereals from stubble; also observed taking ripening mulberries from trees.
